Glenn Greenwald has just pissed off the Koch Brothers...again. Seems that they want to sue him for reporting exactly what they are doing, segregating the schools. Wake County, North Carolina has a new Koch approved school board that is voting for "community schools" and ending busing. In other words they want to send the poor back to their poor school and get a inferior education. It didn't work before Thurgood Marshall won the case in 1954 and no one is going to swallow "separate but equal" now. Why are the Koch Brothers, the Tea Baggers, and Americans for Prosperity trying to take the country back to the days of segregation? Union busting, eliminating collective barganing, ending the minimum wage, and now bringing segregation back. Is this what the Tea Party wanted when they said that they want their country back? Back to what, 1954?

The Conservative government is cutting public programs and no jobs are being developed. Almost sound like America don't it?

Ever since the election the Conservative Media has been trying to make people kill. They try to make people so angry that they will just go out and kill. Conservatives have had Draw Muhammed Days, Draw Allah Days,burning Korans, their march on Dr. King, PUMA, anti Hispanic marches in the Southwest and so on. The American Indian Movement today is being attacked because they're not going to "give" Uncle Sam access to their land and mineral rights. Some "kids" have used flash mobs to do some petty crime. It's nothing the National Guard should be called on to stop. Now some people have said that the Guard should be brought in. Now these "Gangs" as they're called aren't Gangs. This would be equivalent to saying that the kids from "the Jersey Shore" and doing mob hits. What's happeniing in certain parts of the country is that someone is telling these kids to do this and it NOT organized crime. The one thing that organized crime hates is publicity, they're out to make money. The nations largest Black organized crime groups are located in Chicago. Many control the organized crime even in other cities and states including all the way to L.A. I don't think that they're telling thirty people to go into Wal-Mart and steal thirty sandwiches and soft drinks. Would John Gotti do that? Somebody is going to be hurt and it's not the REAL gangsters. Many of the gangs in Chicago are even connected with the LCN. the Mafia. I repeat they are NOT telling kids to steal food out of stores. The real gangs want to make money and when people mess with their money they use violence.

The different gangs in Chicago are at least fifty years old. Some of the people have establish legal businesses. Now why would organize crime tell kids to do petty crime that they can't make money off of? The reason someone is controlling the kids for other reasons. In many right wing publications they're connecting it with race. The meme is that the big bad blacks are attacking whites because they want to start the revolution. This kind of talk only appeals to old bigots. If kids were trying to start a revolution wouldn't they go to gun shops instead of a store to buy a sandwich? I can't prove that this is politically motivated from the right but I can prove that they WERE lying about hoow many events it were as in Peoria. You take a lot of crime articles about blacks and exagerrated and lie and you got black mobs hunting whites. Black people KNOW that when you do a crime against a white person the sentence will be twice or three times as long as it would be if it was committed on a minority.

All they needed was 231,000 and people are STILL signing the petition. This means that the bill will be on the ballot in November. There's a lot of things that Ohio don't have but one thing we do have is strong Union support.

Some people have wonder where are these idea for coming after the middle class coming from? Why is it that when a Republican Governor in one state promotes a cause, a Republican Governor in another state does the same thing. the name f the group is The American Legislative Exchange Council or ALEC for short. what they're trying to di is take public sector and turn them into private sector businesses. Why start up a new business when you can start up a business with an infrastructure already in place. when your buddy is the governor you can get a start up business for only pennies. A State Liquor business, a prison, schools, just get a Governor and the state legislature to ramrod your stuff through. Many Republican are members of ALEC. One prominent member is Governor John Kasich.

One plan that ALEC has is for the return for slavery, I kid you not. In Georgia laws are being prepared to stop undocumented workers from doing farm work. One idea have using people convicted of crimes to serve their sentence and get paid. It may sound logical to some but you have to charge the prisoners for food and lodging. There are also the court cost which means that THEY COULD ACTUALLY OWE MORE THAN THEY WORKED FOR. That's called Synergy. The Government makes money and the farmer makes money. Then there's the takeover of the prisons. In Ohio Kasich wants to have the guards reapply for work , but at a lower wage and less benefits. Do you want to know how you can stop them? If they're going to use this to try and get Republicans elected, they are sadly mistaken. The only people this appeals to are old bigots. A 501(c) group called Right Turn USA made this. The director said that it wasn't racist. Well don't tell me that tell all the REAL GANSTERS that live in L.A. They don't like seeing their people look bad. Now I'm not a authority on gangs but it's safe to say that they're pissed. Glenn Beck has "hinted" to his listeners to shoot the President. Neal Boortz a Conservative Radio Host in Atlanta calls for shooting Black folk. It looks like the Republicans are trying to manfacture violence. This is irresponsible calling for genocide on a race. The right has been disrespectful of blacks for weeks. From the racist remarks on Fox by their "new" Glenn Beck wannabee to Boortz just calling out for his white audience to shoot at any random blacks, this has got to stop. I remember when Rush Limbaugh and other Conservatives tried to plan violence at the DNC convention in Denver. This is going to go on again and again. Beck wants to top his record of three dead police and he don't have much time at Fox. Why isn't any of the Republican prospects for President saying anything about this? It's because they want the President and this country to fail. Anything for the 1% that really rules this country. During the Mau-Mau rebellion 150 Colonist died and anywhere from 30,000 to 300,000 Black Kenyans died. They tried to make their own guns but were unsuccessful, you see it was illegal for Blacks to own guns then. They fought with sticks, spears, and wooden guns. I remember what happened to me in 2004. I just moved back to Cleveland from Cleveland Heights. I was registered to vote in Cleveland. So I went to the elementary school where I was registered. the line went around the block BEFORE you even got into the school. In Cleveland Heights it took my brother, his wife, and my mother about under eight minutes to vote. I was in line FOR THREE HOURS. Most of the elderly male voters were extremely angry. In the history of Cleveland this had NEVER happened before. Cleveland and the county it's located, Cuyahoga is the most heaviest Democratic city and county in the United States. all this happened thanks to J. Kenneth Balckwell who WAS the Secretary of State. In Cleveland EVERYBODY went to work THREE HOURS LATE! Bosses didn't say a damn word. Everybody KNEW Republicans tried to rig the vote. Because of that BUSH WON OHIO. Now thank God that with all his cheating Blackwell didn't get the Governorship. He had threatened to send "Challengers" to check for ID and question voters. "Someone" put up flyers on the Near West Side threatening to get Immigration to check for ID. The Near West Side is mostly Puerto Ricans WHO ARE AMERICAN CITIZENS. This "trick" angered the community.

Now it's 2011 and the Republican Party is on steroids and doubling up on their effort to stop people from voting. Well it looks like Breitbart is at it again. When Breitbart was at Rep. Anthony Weiner's press confrence he mentioned that there were more photos and that he waanted an apology. Rep. Weiner confesed and told his recollection. I don't know about you but where I live it's called blackmail.

First why didn't Breitbart give law enforcement ALL the evidence? You cannot withhold evidence. Second if children WERE allegely involved, then Breitbart could be charge as a accessory after the fact. Third, wasn't there a person that operated a porn website that assisted Breitbart in some capasity? Didn't this person also CONTACTED children and asked them to commit perjury?

What will probably happen is that if Rep. Weiner did something illegal EVERYONE INVOLVED COULD GO TO JAIL. It doesn't matter if Breitbart and his friends were trying to get Rep. Weiner in a sting, using juveniles is a no no.

The group that worked with Breitbart were on him AFTER he announced that he would go after Clarence Thomas and his wife. While people are transfixed by the photos and subject matter, It looks like the Supreme Court is corrupted and tainted by bribes. People forgot that they attacked Rep. Weiner ONLY after he was going to investigate the Thomases.

In Magic they use smoke and mirrors and it looks like Breitbart is doing the same. No one IS even mentioning the payoff by the Health Care Lobby, the gifts from the Koch family , or Ginny Thomas being in charge of a Tea Party group. No one mentioned not paying taxes on money his wife was suppose to declare.

Did Justice Thomas also get "paid" by the Koch family for "Citizens United". If all this happened then he can lose his Missouri Law license and be fired. His wife could go to jail as well.

There is no way that I am voting for Herman Cain. At this point the only Republican that I would vote for is Andrew Sullivan and Republicans consider him a Republican as much as Liberals consider Juan Williams a Democrat.

If Herman Cain is serious why hasn't he :

1. Commented on the overt racism being put out by the right. People have brought signs to rallies calling for harm to come to the FIRST LADY and her CHILDREN. Will ANY Republican comment on it?

2. Why hasn't he commented on the overt MASS Voter Supression campaign taking place in many states. If a African American wanted to vote for him , maybe they can't because Republican administrations are trying to nullify the votes of African Americans.

3. The overt homophobia from the right. When Republicans make a group of people the punchlines of their jokes it shows how serious the right is trying to reach out to their community. Their sexual idenity is THEIR business just like someones religion is THEIR business. No one want to be told how to pray now do they?

4. The Xenophobia and nativism being taught by the right. Many minority groups in the West and Southwest face massive pogroms against them. Many of their breathen are cheated out of the wages and rights because of fear of being sent out of the country.

5. The violence being promoted by the right on Muslims and Arabs. This should be a serious concern of Mr. Cain's. Our soldiers lives are in danger because some bigot wants to burn a Koran, or a Mosque, or a Muslim. How can we get the Muslim and Arab world to like us if we constantly attack them ?

6. Will people let Women's health issues STAY Womens health issues? If a Woman is raped or her life is in danger does she need Pat Robertson's permission? Do you want your minister in charge of your health issues? Many of the new laws being written ARE only about Abortion. In some states the only new taxes are only being applied to any group or people associated with Abortion or reproductive health.

7. Where were those jobs that the Tea Party and the rest of the Republican Party promised to bring?

8. Will the rich EVER be taxed? One year Rupert Murdoch DIDN'T pay ANY taxes. GE didn't pay taxes as well. Everybody paid their share, how about the rich? The Republicans had eight years to make more businesses and instead just made more money.

Appearance on the FBI's terrorist watch list, however, does not alone disqualify people from buying guns [under the Quigley amendment]. That database is designed to track those "known or appropriately suspected to be or have been engaged in conduct constituting, in preparation for, in aid of, or related to terrorism."

Quigley's amendment would have empowered the U.S. attorney general to deny firearm sales to individuals on the FBI's list when surveillance obtained using the Patriot Act led the attorney general to believe those people would use the weapons for acts of terror.

Judiciary Republicans who spoke against the Quigley amendment Thursday ” including Reps. James Sensenbrenner Jr. [R- Wis.] and Louie Gohmert [R- Tx.] ” argued that restricting sales to people on the watch list would violate the Second Amendment rights of those placed on the list by mistake.

Louie Gohmert is the same guy that sponsored a bill on the President's birth certificate and "terror babies", children born to al Qaeda and Mexican women who give birth in the U.S.

It seems that the Congressman's yfrog account wasn't hacked into, he was punked by a punk. It's kind of technical but things like time codes and the speed which the screenshot was taken sound fishy. Democrats really didn't care about this situation because first, his marriage is none of my business. Democrats don't have a litmus test like that only Republicans, just ask Former Congressman Chris Lee. We only care about what job someone does, not their sex life. She alread got a great start by telling another female racist to reload after saying the N-word 11 times. hanging the with the bikers (aka Aryan Nation) might work well also with her constituency. But a photo of Bristol with two "colored" boys won't go down too well Down South. Yes I know that she is photographed with Kyle Massey from the "Dancing with the Stars" and "That's so Raven" show, it don't matter. To a true bigot like tha ones that support Palin, that's too close for comfort. Yes Bristol is going to do a show with both Kyle and his brother. What was unusual about this particualr race riot was that it was the first time in American History that an American city was bombed from the air. Race riots were a usual occurance in America. It happened to Latinos, Japanese, Chinese, Native Americans, and Blacks.

The people Lisa "roll" with deny any violent by Whites including the Holocaust. More and more people will learn about "real" American History and not the sanitized version where only minorities were the savages. Lisa and her white racist friends don't want you to learn about the "Trail of Tears", "The Zoot Suit Riots", "The Middle Passage", or "Iran Contra". As Mel Brooks said in "History of the World" "It's good to be the King", and John Kasich knows it. He can sponge his way in line at the DMV, take photos with the peasants, and insult them by calling a guy's girlfriend his mother.

Only in Kasichstan can you have a fetus sworn in court. Yes they actually did that. While other Governors (Democrats) are trying to find ways to attract jobs, King Kasich is trying to turn Ohio into a Third World country.

The only people that King Kasich tax are Abortion providers and Casinos. The legislature in Ohio has passed several taxes on Abortion providers and anyone connected to them. Maybe the new jobs are in the law field suing the state or Women's health care providers.

Then you have the Casinos. Many of Kasich's buddies get good jobs with the administration. The people on the Casino commission get $5,000.00 for an hours work. That's $60,000.00 a year. He's also asking for more money.

Kasich is busy having a fire sale of Ohio's many assets such as the prisons, the turnpike, and anything else that isn't nailed down. He's giving school vouchers TO RICH FAMILIES. How is that going to save money and bring jobs to Ohio?

He also want's to stay in power any way he can even if it means voter suppression.

•Requires that votes be thrown out if every single field - including non-essential fields - are not completed for a provisional or absentee ballot request form.

•Instead of finding a solution to prevent poll workers from misdirecting voters to the wrong precinct, this bill removes the current requirement that poll workers assist voters in finding the correct voting precinct.
•Increases the number of provisional ballots, which are less likely to be properly counted, by eliminating the requirement that poll workers will be required to direct voters to their correct precinct and by prohibiting poll workers form helping voters complete forms.
Eliminates Local Control

Boards of elections would be forced to comply with a one-size-fits-all rule, which means:

•NO setting up satellite locations for early voting that are more accessible unless 3 of 4 members approve
•NO setting early vote hours that make sense for their county
•NO mailing of absentee ballot request forms to all registered voters to shorten election day lines and add convenience for busy working voters as well as elderly voters
•NO paying for postage for ballot return to ensure voters complete voting process

On May 1st, 2011 Osama bin Laden was shot to death by American forces in Abbotabad, Pakistan. His body was quickly identified, given Muslim rites, and buried in the Arabian Sea. The administration it happened under was President Obama's. Now the right wants you to believe that the President is a enemy of Israel.

This man is #1 on al Qaeda's hit list. His Step Grandmother is #2. If he wanted to look like a "good" Muslim wouldn't he have helped bin Laden? He gives a speech on Middle East peace and now he's a enemy of civilization as we know it.

The right has been planning this for a while. Glenn Beck just didn't think of his "Restore Courage" rally. This was planned, just like the 9/12 rally and the March on Washington. This was done for one thing, to incite violence. Glenn doesn't care about people dying, as long as he gets paid. If he was really religious he wouldn't always speak of death.

For awhile a little troll has been running around to different sites posting my site address. I wouldn't mind if BOISBS would be man enough to have a site of his own so I could go there and comment. Many of the Blogs he visit are either white supremacist or anti-Muslim sites. I have wondered if anyone could reason with them. Some of the people on these are of course being paid to say these nasty things, others are that bigoted.

When I went to one of the sites BOISBS was tagging my name at I noticed something strange, they were beyond reason. I told them that their anti-Muslim comments could get our troops killed, they didn't care. I told them that al-Qaeda was going after the POTUS Step-Grandmother, they didn't care. I told them that in his journal bin Laden wanted to make their prime target the POTUS, they didn't care. It shows how much hatred they have for this man. Where did Glenn get this audience of collegians? Maybe they don't know that Republicans are trying to take money away from college programs or that Republicans are trying to "spoil" the votes of college students. Too bad there wasn't any students from The University of Wisconsin, the University of Madison, or any of the other fine institutions in Wisconsin. Maybe they could have told their companions how the right treats college people. Many times on Fox they're called stupid. Maybe they don't know who Beck is or maybe the Fox florist found some pretty cheap "plants" for Beck's studio.

Speaking of brainwashing it looks like Mike Huckabee will not run for President. I think he's too busy selling his fake revisionists history. I tried to call Michael Gallagher's show when one of my friends contacted me. They were pissed that Gallagher wanted the President arrested for killing bin Laden, you can't make this stuff up. Each time I reached his show they put me on hold and then hung up on me. On another occasion I have called his show and read him the riot act. After the third try the screener ask me if I wanted to relay a message to him. I told the screener that Mike was a racist, coward, and a traitor. If you haven't heard Mike's show let me let you know that he does the same thing that Glenn Beck does. One time Mike, Rush, and Malkin had a teacher quit because she taught students a song about the President. She had to "retire" because of all the death threats she was getting from Mike's fans. He broadcast her name and school on his show. While people on the left may pass out petitions or boycott someone, Gallagher have people in fear of their life.

I decided to go over to his site and I found this, the fake senior's organization AMAC that was founded to stop health care. They didn't exist until a couple of years ago. Below are some of the things they believe in.

How is AMAC different from the AARP?
AMAC stands for lower energy prices, demanding an immediate expansion of oil, coal, natural gas and nuclear production in America. AARP is silent.
AMAC opposed ObamaCare, and is fighting to Repeal and Replace it. AARP supported it (see video below to learn why).
AMAC stands against high taxes, which harm seniors living on a fixed income. AARP is silent.
AMAC fights for 2nd Amendment rights. AARP supported the Brady Bill.

If you're an African America you know about "The Proud Lady". It's a logo that tells the person that the product was made by a African American firm. People need to learn REAL AMERICAN HISTORY, not the Fox version or the Beck U version. Blacks in America are hated more than Muslims. The only people more hated than Muslims are Blacks Muslims. This hatred for blacks goes down real deep. They even fought a war about us and it had the most casualties of any American war. the emblems of the war are flown with pride at several events. Imagine if Germans fly the swastika at all of their public events.

Images of Blacks were used to sell motor oil, toothpaste, food, cigarettes, and other products. Some think that as long as it's out of sight and out of mind, that it doesn't exist. He ask several of the people there gotcha questions about Justice Clarence Thomas. One white gentleman said that Justice Thomas should be in the fields. Breitbart said that the statement was racist. Actually that man was being kind to Justice Thomas. There's the old story that was made popular by Malcolm X of the House Negro and the Field Negro. Basically a House Negro is a Uncle Tom and the Field Negro was a rebel much like Nat Turner. The only people that would think that the statement that man made was racist would be Breitbart's audience. The man was accurate Clarence Thomas NEEDS to be in the field.

Andrew is going to get his just desserts and he won't like it. I wonder if he's getting his legal advice from the law firm of Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe? If he's trying to improve his image by making television appearances, it's not working. All Mrs. Sharrod's lawyers have to do is show the statement Andrew made about her father. Andrew said that Mrs. Sharrod's father was not lynched because he was shot and beaten to death by the Klan and not hanged. I don't think that an all white jury would let Andrew slide after hearing that.

If I was Andrew I would worry a lot. Imagine if he get some African Americans on the jury. They would be familiar with how Andrew tried to destroy the NAACP. They would also be reminded about his friends James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles blackface routine as a pimp and a prostitute that destroyed ACORN. They would be reminded that he WAS friends with known cult leader Glenn Lee Beck. He calls his idol Rush Limbaugh, the man that played the "Magic Negro" song on his radio show.

When Porky's came out I was a kid. We were told that it was bad on the youth of America, so we went in DROVES. Ministers chasing women around. Wild parties, all sorts of debauchery. Well it didn't harm me, at least I hope it didn't. It showed the world how fake Americans were in their quest for the so-called ideal America. We were some filthy mothers back in the day. It continues today.

When people tried to compare the POTUS family to the Palins, it turned into a hot mess. They tried to portray the First Family as "ghetto", but it made Palins family look more "ghetto" than the Evans family on "Good Times". Drug dealing in-laws, teen pregnancy, that kind of backfired on them. Sean Klannity even questioned how the POTUS can have his family sit in THAT church.

The church in question was the United Church of Christ, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. My Senator Sherrod Brown and his wife Connie Schultz belong to that denomination. The right made it sound like a factory for Communist.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright was a man that had a college deferment during the Vietnam War. he sign up TWICE for the Navy and the Marines. There's a photo of him with Bill Moyer L.B.J. press secretary. LBJ even said that Rev. Wright SAVED his life. He went to Syria and got a American Jet Pilot out. During "Monicagate" he was there to console the First Family. Sean made him out to be some kind of super Black Nationalist. How far must black people go to prove their patriotism?

The famous speech that Rev. Wright gave in church was a response to the "Reagan Doctrine" of supporting terrorist, or as they called them "Freedom Fighters". Most black ministers in America kept quiet, they were worried about hurting Sen. Obama's campaign. One man that stood up was Fr. Michael Pfleager. Bill Oreilly had the Catholic Church shut him down. Michael Medved even complained that Fr. Pfleager Church had a mural of a black Jesus.

Now Sean Hannity could have a White Supremacist , bomb maker who might be bi- sexual and a drug addict SLEEP at his house. Sean even invited Hal Turner to the studio. At the same time he questioned the President having his children go to his church. The POTUS had Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers visit his children. don't sound like racists to me.

You had ministers and Congressmen from the right being caught in "sexapades" all over the place. It seems like the right can do it and no one else can. Some people are held up to a higher level like the First Family.

He makes most of his money from the writing and not his tours. He writes on one subject only, race. Hey Tim Allen made a career out of home building. If you were to find one of his albums it would cost probably $300.00. This man says what a lot of Black people want to say but are too scared to get fired.

On Election Day in 2008 a guy that probably weighs 130 Lbs holding a taped up broom handle was standing at a polling booth in Philly in a mostly Black neighborhood. When me and my friends see this the first thing we thought was why wasn't he shot? Most brothers are shot on mistake holding their cell phones. Can you say Fox plant? Where was the outrage when whites in Arizona in 2004 stopped Hispanic people at polling locations holding machine guns? BTW, Dubya DOJ DROPPED the case. The current administration opened it back up. When a black guy carry guns to a health care rally sponsored by the POTUS Fox thought it was cute. Imagine if he was at a Palin rally?

I think that Republicans are actually trying to destroy America. Would there have been a "Draw Mohammed Day " while Reagan was President? Barack Obama and the Jim Crow Media: The Return of the Nigger Breakers is Reed’s fourth book of media criticism. We talked to Reed while he was on the East Coast on a brief tour to promote a book whose publication and scathing critique of racist, corporate controlled media has largely and not surprisingly been ignored by those whom Reed labels the “Jim Crow Media.”

Q. Your latest book was published last month. Would you explain its sub-title: “The Return of the Nigger Breakers”?
A: Edward Covey was a member of a profession whose job was to tame unruly slaves. Frederick Douglass was one of those men who was sent to him, a Nigger Breaker, to be disciplined. Douglass turned the tables on him and thrashed him. I argue that this is the aim of the media, and other institutions that are opposed to Obama. Moreover, with the firing and buyouts of hundreds of minority journalists, black institutions, blacks in general, black celebrities and even the president are being judged by a mostly white media and a handful of acceptable right-wing blacks, a few of whom are farther to the right than the white right.

Q. The book was published by a Canadian-based publisher. Why were you unable to get this book published in the United States?
A: This is attributable to the state of black letters. Serious fiction and non-fiction by blacks are becoming extinct, except for those which uphold the current line coming from the media owners and the corporations: that all of the problems of Africans and African Americans are due to their behavior. Terry McMillan, interviewed in the latest issue of Konch (IshmaelReedpub.com) says that black fiction that is selling is urban fiction that shows blacks at their worst. This is not to say that black criminals don’t exist. But that’s all we get from the mainstream media, television and movies. This is true not only for literature but for theater, film, art galleries and opinion columns as well.

At one time, blacks could respond through writing. James Baldwin served as a diamond megaphone for black aspirations and could debate critics of black people one on one. But with the disappearance of serious black fiction and non-fiction, this is no longer the case. Now this book, which my agent said no American publisher would publish, was published in Quebec. Between April 14 and 20, I did national media in Canada with front page stories in the major dailies and weeklies, a front page story in The Montreal Review of Books and was greeted by crowds in Montreal and Toronto. In Montreal, they had to turn people away. This must have been what it was like when the fugitive slaves traveled abroad and lectured. My advice to young writers is that they seek audiences elsewhere. It’s a big world.

Q. Much of your recent work has focused on media criticism. Why?
A: The segregated American media with its alliance with the right wing and racist forces like the tea party movement—which was created, organized, and amplified by the segregated Jim Crow media—are the most powerful opponents to black and Hispanic progress. It’s not surprising that they have, using the late Carl Rowan’s expression, “outpropagandized” blacks and white democrats and progressives as well. That’s because they have billions at their disposal.

The insurance companies put $350 million out to defeat health care reform and bank-rolled this faux grassroots movement, which is white men, among the most privileged groups in world history. The media have overblown the strength of this movement because racism is big business for them. The coverage of a gun rally that was held near Washington, D.C., on April 19 was typical. CNN didn’t do aerial shots because that would have revealed the small turnout. The media are the mob leaders. And they cater to a niche of people who are addicted to the need to believe in black pathology.

Q. On that point, you wrote very critically about the movie ‘Precious’, and took a good deal of heat for it. Did you feel compelled to speak out?
A: Most of the responses I received from whites and black men and women were 85 percent positive. This propaganda movie had to be challenged because powerful critics were saying that this family was the typical black family living in poverty. I never denied that child abuse occurs in American communities. What the supporters of this movie were suggesting is that incest is “prevalent” in African-American communities! And the media line was that only a few black angry men were opposed to the movie. I pointed out that a number of black women and even white women intellectuals spoke out against the film. In fact, the latest issue of my zine Konch publishes two articles written by white women who are vociferous in their opposition to the movie. Thirty years from now, Precious will seem like an odd throwback to the days when blacks were shown running away from the farmer’s shotgun with chickens in both hands.

Q. Ishmael, your information about the media seems encyclopedic. What do you read, watch, listen to, what sites on the internet?
A: I read three newspapers each day, where the typical portrait of a black man has him in an orange jumpsuit. I watch cable and monitor the opinion pages whose post-race line is usually challenged by reports and studies printed in the same newspapers. I do not come to criticism of the media empty-handed.

Q: Any advice on how to become more critical in news consumption?
A: I have an online magazine. I get useful information each day from those who write on Facebook, Counterpunch.com, Media Matters, FAIR. And Richard Prince’s “Journalisms” are essential.

Q: Do you think technology, particularly the Internet – is loosening the grip of corporate media?
A: Yes, that’s why they’re trying control it.

Q: Given your analysis in the “Jim Crow Media,” how do people of color, progressives and others critique Barack Obama without colluding with corporate America’s agenda?
A: I have some problems with some of Obama’s policies, but as long as these people are threatening to kill him and his family, and calling his mother, a distinguished Irish-American anthropologist, “white trash” and even worse, I’m on his side. All of the stored-up bile of white supremacy has exploded like airborne E-Coli as a result of Obama’s election. One Republican site just put up a photo depicting Obama and Michelle as characters in Sanford and Son. He’s not only the nation’s President but he’s also its chief exorcist, like a St.Patrick stoking the nation’s lizard brain.

The progressives are uncomfortable with Obama because they’ve been opposed to black leadership, historically. The progressive media is just as segregated as the corporate media which they are always criticizing from their glass houses. Richard Prince printed a photo of a Huffington Post Xmas party. One black staffer!! The opposition to Obama from people of color comes from the fringes. He has a 90 percent approval rating from blacks, over 60 percent from Hispanics and he carried the Asian-American vote. Yet these arrogant white progressives say they are his base and that he is obligated to them.

Q: Where do you think American media will be in 5 or 10 years?
A: Newspapers will be dead and buried and maybe some enterprising scholar will write a book about how they fomented racial and civil strife and helped the American government justify useless wars since the 1830s. Mao [Tse Tung] had a habit of sending intellectuals among the peasants from time to time so that they might understand what’s what. That’s what should happen with the “tough- lovers” and post-race entrepreneurs at Yale, Harvard and the Think Tanks. Send them to live in Detroit, Oakland, or Washington D.C. inner cities for a couple of years. See what happens. See what happens.

Puerto Rico has a Republican Governor too

While the world celebrates the democratic revolution in Egypt, major violations of basic human rights

are occurring in our own backyard. Since Governor of Puerto Rico Luis Fortuño (R) came into power two years ago, free speech has been under all-out assault. The following events have taken place recently:

* Thousands of public workers have been laid off and had their union contracts terminated, leading to tens of thousands of people peacefully protesting over the past year. One event turned out over 100,000 peaceful protestors and while in NYC hundreds marched on May Day, in Puerto Rico May Day turned out an estimated 30,000 citizens.

* At a protest at the steps of the Capital Building over the closing of access to legislative sessions,

access that is constitutionally mandated, protesters were beaten mercilessly, pepper sprayed and shot at by Puerto Rico Police. The same has occurred at other locations.

At most events young women are the first to be targeted for police violence. At the University of Puerto Rico, female students, many of whom were beaten, were also sexually harassed, groped and assaulted (touched) by police. Students have been mercilessly beaten, mazed and shot at with rubber bullets. Citizens have accused, which images captured confirm, police of applying torture techniques on immobilized student protesters. In the past two years, there have been several riots at protests in and around the University of Puerto Rico. Many protesters have accused the police of causing the riots, which some videos also seem to confirm.

Since taking the oath of office, the current administration, which controls all three branches of government, has set out to quash Freedom of Expression. In Puerto Rico, Expression has been in the form of protests against government policies, such as the firing of approximately 26,000 workers in total, privatizing government, closing off access to public information and legislative sessions, attempting to close down the university FM radio station during periods of civil unrest and going after the Puerto Rico Bar Association, which was a mandatory integrated Bar and is Puerto Rico’s oldest institution. The 171 year old Puerto Rico Bar Association (Colegio de Abogados de Puerto Rico) has historically been a known focal point for liberal dissent against government policies.

Puerto Rico Governor Fortuño, who is considered a rising star in the Republican Party, has publicly committed to not allowing what he calls “extreme left” protests and expression. On Friday, February 11, 2011, Governor Fortuño spoke about his administration’s policies while speaking at a Conservative Political Action Conference of the American Conservative Union (ACU) in Washington, DC, an activity attended by members of the National Rifle Association, the Tea Party and the John Birch Society.

* At the University of Puerto Rico all forms of expression have been prohibited, through a Resolution issued by UPR Chancellor Ana Guadalupe; a resolution which Governor Luis Fortuño ordered armed police officers to enforce. On Wednesday, February 9, 2011, a group of students participated in civil disobedience on campus, consisting of a paint-in. During the paint-in, students peacefully and without interrupting the educational process painted messages of protest in a limited area of the street at the front of the main library, in defiance of the Chancellor’s absolute prohibition on any form of protest. Students immediately came under extreme physical and violent attack by members of the police force’s elite and heavily armed SWAT and Riot Squad teams.

While the ACLU is looking to file charges on Human Rights violations and evaluating other legal options, the Puerto Rico Daily Sun, a conservative English language newspaper, published a damming editorial in which it called for the resignation of the university’s president, chancellors and the Board of Trustees. On Friday, February 11, 2011, President Ramón De la Torres’ resignation was unanimously accepted by the Board of Trustees. However, the Board Chairperson, Ygrí Rivera, immediately stated that she will not be removing armed Puerto Rico Police officers from the University of Puerto Rico campus.

In its editorial, the Puerto Rico Daily Sun, stated that “[t]he indiscriminate aggression of police riot squads against students, who are exercising their constitutional rights in public areas without interfering with any academic or administrative activity, is a gross violation of their rights and an act comparable only to the acts of the dictatorships we all denounce and reject”. The Daily Sun added that “[w]e do not want this new order, neither for our university, the Capitol, La Fortaleza or our neighborhoods. We reject it with all our might, exercising our freedom of speech, or freedom of association, is not a crime”.

As we say in Puerto Rico, “mas claro no canta un gallo” (it could not have been more clearly stated). On Sunday, February 12, 2011, just four days after students were mercilessly beaten by Puerto Rico Police agents, over 10,000 alumnus, parents, grandparents, family members and other citizens took to the streets and marched over to reclaim the UPR campus, demanding that the PRPD be immediately ordered off campus. In addition to the debacle and related violence at the University of Puerto Rico, in the past two years legislation has been passed that would prohibit protests at construction sites and most recently at any government building that renders educational services and other locations providing government services, under penalty of criminal prosecution.

The Puerto Rico Bar Association was recently de-certified through legislation which the governor signed into law, which all but shut down its operations. Several lawyers aligned with the views of the current administration pushed for de-certification and had previously sued the Bar Association in federal court alleging that the Bar was forcing them to purchase an unwanted insurance policy; its $78.00 per year cost was paid from Bar Association dues. Bar members were never informed of the particulars of the lawsuit and Federal Fudge José Antonio Fusté issued a GAG order prohibiting the disclosure of important aspects of the case to Bar class members.

The Puerto Rico Bar Association is not being allowed to inform and counsel Bar members about their right to opt out of the lawsuit. Thousands of lawyers are not even sure why they are a part of this lawsuit. It is believed that an English language notice on the right to opt out of the lawsuit may not be sufficient guarantee that Bar members will fully understand the ramifications of their actions. Many members of the Bar have limited English skills, particularly lawyers in the smaller and rural towns. The newly elected President of the now voluntary Puerto Rico Bar Association (Colegio de Abogados de Puerto Rico), Osvaldo Toledo, was jailed on Friday, February 11, 2010, at a federal detention center in Puerto Rico, where he remains on contempt of a court charges for refusing to pay a $10,000 fine imposed on him for having counseled Bar members who insist that they have a right to know the particulars of the suit and procedure for opting out.

Federal Judge José Antonio Fuste’s GAG order extends not only to the President of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, but also board members, administrators, agents and servants. The Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Puerto Rico, William Ramírez, had previously been warned by the Bar that he may not be able to speak out against what is held to be an injustice and First Amendment infringement. Speaking out in defiance of the federal court order may result in the arrest of anyone covered by the court’s GAG order and further fines imposed against the Puerto Rico Bar Association.

After studying the court’s order, we at the ACLU do not, at this time, believe that the federal court order reaches class members or other members of the Bar, including the staff and cooperating attorneys of the ACLU in Puerto Rico. However, we do believe the order to be unjust and believe it should be set aside.

The ACLU will continue to fight for the right to free speech and peaceful assembly in Puerto Rico and fully intends to take on any challenges that it may face.
